Springfield Mill and Lumber Company, Inc. was established
in 1868 as the Chicago Lumber Company and later became the
Springfield Planing Mill and Lumber Company.
This company has been in continuous operation since 1868.

The primary business of the original company was millwork
manufacturing and production of furniture and fixtures for
prominent area businesses, leading private residences, and
public buildings. Springfield Planing Mill and Lumber Company
was a leading company of its kind of the State Of Missouri
and served several other states as well.
The original location was the corner of Phelps and Campbell Avenues in
Springfield, Missouri. In 1935, the company moved to its current location
at 216 W. Central Street just one-half a block west of the historical
courthouse. In 1994, a fire destroyed the store showroom and offices
that were rebuilt in 1995 on the same location of the former structure.
Springfield Mill and Lumber Company was acquired in 1959 by Malcolm G. Wright
of Springfield, Missouri. His son, M. Lloyd Wright, has succeeded him
as the owner and president of the company. Larry Kendrick serves as
the general manager.
Today, Springfield Mill and Lumber Company is a full service lumber and building
materials center with emphasis on service to the builder/contractor of residential
and commerical construction. The products available include lumber,
windows, doors, and other building materials and related supplies.
Millwork is still offered, as is a wide range of replacement windows
and doors. The company has over 30 employees and a fleet of 18 trucks
providing free delivery to the individual homebuilder and the
commercial contractor in the Southwest Missouri area.
Springfield Mill and Lumber Company, Inc. has a full outside sales
force for on job site calls. There is a state of the art estimating
service available in the store at no charge.
